My Trip to Maryland  Summer - 2003

This June, my aunt Susy and uncle Terry treated me to a 10 day stay at their house on the Chesapeake Bay in Shady Side, Maryland.  I had been waiting anxiously for months for the day to arrive.  I couldn’t stop thinking about how exciting it would be.  Finally June 19^th  arrived and I stepped foot on the airplane at 10:00 pm that night, headed for Baltimore.  On the flight I met Dave and Brittany.  We played cards and talked to pass the five hours we were in the air.  When we finally arrived in Baltimore, I hurried down the ramp and there was Susy, waiting for me with her camera.

On the ride to Shady Side from the airport Susy and I talked and got reacquainted.  I hadn’t seen her since summer of 2000, when my dad, brother Alex, and I visited.  This was one of the wettest years in the history of the Chesapeake Bay area.   When we arrived at Susy’s house, Terry and Chris and Kerri were there to greet us.  Then we all ate and talked over a big breakfast that Susy made for us.  Susy is such a good cook!  She made many great meals for us while I was there. 

During my stay, Chris and Kerri taught me how to water ski.  I was finally able to stay up for several minutes.  They also took me tubing and swimming in the bay.  I fished too.  Sometimes we just hung out in the hot tub or played hearts.  I really appreciate all the time Chris and Kerri spent with me while they were there.  After a few days they had to go back home.  I spent lots of time with the new Borzoi puppies Roonie and Red.

On top of every thing else, I got to spend time with Susy and Terry’s friends Bob and Kate.  I spent a lot of time swimming in their pool and playing with their two very excited dogs named Mazie and Mooch.  Mazie would jump in the water to get a tennis ball when I threw it.  We had lots of fun playing in the water.  Bob took me sailing with the dogs.  He taught me how to work the sails and about steering.  We went together on another boat for a sailboat race.  The boat we were on took 3^rd  place.  Bob and Kate added so much fun to my trip.

Susy and I went to Washington and on a tour of the Capitol Building.  We got to see all the beautiful murals, designs, and paintings inside.  One of my favorite parts were the sculptures of the famous leaders and presidents.  I loved gazing up into the huge dome over the senate gallery. 

I'll always remember my trip to Shady Side and the friends and family who made it so special.  Thanks, everyone!
